BEIRUT – Activists say Syrian troops have attacked a convoy trying to evacuate wounded people from a central town near the border with Lebanon, killing at least seven.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Friday's attack near the town of Qusair also wounded "tens of people."
Syrian troops backed by members of Lebanon's militant Hezbollah have been trying to capture the town, launching an offensive nearly two weeks ago.
Dozens of troops, Hezbollah fighters and rebels have been killed since then.
Qusair-based activist Hadi Abdullah told The Associated Press via Skype that there are about 800 wounded people in the town and some need "urgent operations."
The battle for Qusair has exposed Hezbollah's growing role in the Syrian conflict.
