TEHRAN, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Iranian security forces arrested seven people in the presidential election campaign of moderate candidate Hassan Rouhani, the opposition website kaleme.com reported Sunday.
The arrests were made on Saturday after the participants, with slogans, called for the release of an opposition leader, Mir Hossein Mousavi, who has been under home arrest for more than two years following the unrest of Iran's disputed presidential election in 2009.
The young participants also chanted slogans for the release of another opposition leader under home arrest, Mehdi Karroubi, and other "political prisoners," said the report.
According to Iran's Interior Ministry, nearly 50.5 million eligible Iranians will vote for eight candidates who have been qualified by Iran's Guardian Council of Constitution for the presidential election slated for June 14.
